In 2047, Manila is no longer just a city of
traffic and smog—it’s a nexus of quantum memory
banks where the deceased are uploaded into
synthetic afterlives. The Church of Saint
Michael, once the heart of spiritual life, now
competes with the New Rebirth Corporation, which
offers eternal digital existence for a price.
Lena Delgado, 23, is a registered spirit medium
in Barangay San Miguel, trained since childhood
to channel ancestral voices. Her late father, a
revered but controversial priest, left behind a
cryptic journal before vanishing during a
crackdown on unlicensed mediums. The journal
speaks of a "soul vault" hidden beneath their
ancestral home in Cebu—a place where the first
Filipino souls were digitally preserved before
the corporation took control.
The New Rebirth Corporation has recently begun
acquiring old properties, offering exorbitant
sums to heirs. Lena’s estranged aunt, who
inherited the house, refuses to sell. But when
Lena’s mother dies under mysterious
circumstances, the corporation sends enforcers
to claim the property. They offer her a deal:
upload her mother’s consciousness into their
system, or lose the house.
Lena discovers that her father wasn’t just a
priest—he was one of the first to resist the
corporation, using his knowledge of spirit
rituals to block their scans. His journal
contains coordinates to the soul vault, but
accessing it requires a bloodline ritual only
she can perform. The ritual demands a sacrifice:
either her own consciousness or her mother’s.
She refuses both. Instead, she allies with a
rogue tech hacker named Joven, whose brother was
one of the first victims of the corporation’s
forced uploads. Together, they break into the
vault, only to find it’s not just a repository—
it’s a prison, holding the original Filipino
souls trapped in a loop of forgotten history.
The corporation catches them midheist. Lena is
captured, but Joven triggers a failsafe in the
vault, releasing the souls and corrupting the
corporation’s servers. The system crashes, and
the uploaded souls begin to manifest in the
physical world as vengeful specters.
Lena uses her gift to bind the souls, offering
them peace in exchange for her father’s journal.
She returns to the city, now free from the
corporation’s grip, but with a new burden: the
vault is gone, and the balance between the
living and the dead is forever changed.
No one knows what happened in the vault. Only
Lena remembers. And she carries the weight of
the past like a prayer in her pocket.
