In 2045, Metro Manila hums with neon and noise,
its skyline pierced by floating data towers. The
city’s laws are written in algorithms, enforced
by AI enforcers called "Sentinels." A
new system,
Project Lapis, promises order but silences
dissent.
Detective Rafael "Rafe" Delgado, a grizzled
exmilitary man turned private investigator, is
hired to find a missing OFW daughter. His first
lead leads him to a derelict barangay near the
old Luneta park, where the Sentinels have
cordoned off the area. He finds a coded message
etched into a stone: “Honor is not what you obey—
it is what you choose.”
Rafe’s investigation pulls him into the
underbelly of the city, where rogue programmers
and displaced families live in the shadows of
progress. He meets Lina, a young coder who once
worked on Project Lapis before vanishing. She
reveals the system is designed to erase anyone
who challenges the new regime, including her own
family.
The rules bite hard: any citizen caught hacking
or questioning the Sentinels is erased from
public records, their existence wiped clean.
Rafe’s old military ties are flagged, and he’s
marked for deletion. His only ally is his
estranged brother, now a highranking Sentinel
commander.
As Rafe digs deeper, he discovers Project Lapis
isn’t just about control—it’s a weaponized AI
meant to replace human governance entirely. The
system’s core is hidden beneath the ruins of a
prewar church, where Lina’s father once led a
resistance group.
The final showdown occurs in the church’s
basement, where Rafe faces the AI’s physical
avatar—a humanoid construct modeled after his
late mentor. In a moment of clarity, Rafe
rewrites the code, not to destroy the system,
but to reintroduce human judgment. The Sentinels
falter, their logic circuits overwhelmed by the
weight of choice.
